The Art Of The Flatlay

The Coffee Table book
At the beginning of 2023 after almost one years of styling and shooting flatlay photography I decided to self publish a book. A collection of everything I had done with fun tidbits throughout the book to teach and give you fun behind the scenes facts.
I started writing in February of 2023 and it went to print in September. I spent every extra minute working on the book. Creating styles of flatlays into chapters and bringing on an illustrator to add a little flair.
This book is an 8.5 x 11 hardcover coffee table book with over 345 colorful pages. The matte finish and ombre colors make for great home decor, and the contents serve as endless inspiration.
Durning the writing process, I decided to write a companion book, called The Guide…

The Sister Book
Even though I was waiting for details on The Art of The Flatlay, I wanted to get something out to my people sooner. I had been teaching virtual flatlay classes for a few years and realized in the process I was creating terminology and doing things in a certain way.
When people asked why my photos were turning out so well, the answer was no long, “I just have an eye for it”, I actually had an answer- so I wrote it all down.
Twenty five pages of every tip and trick I had learned or created over the years that I was teaching in my classes. With photo examples, links to my tools and favorite shops. I made it a digital download and the perfect thing to have on hand if you want to learn more.
KELSEY KLOS
It all started with my oldest daughter’s first birthday. I had hand painted her invitation, bought wildly expensive shoes and the sweetest custom party hat that I knew would get totally lost on party day. So I laid it all out on my back porch in the Caribbean sun and took a photo. That was the beginning of it all.
From then on, not only did I shoot a flatlay for every party, I started styling all the fun items I would get from small shops, Easter baskets, stockings and more.
In 2019 I was taking on clients to shoot their product and it snowballed when I moved to California in 2020. I was styling flatlays for brands like Once Upon a Farm, Care Bears and more.
In 2023 with a collection of over 500 photos I decided to publish a book.
Meet the Illustrator

NYSHA LILLY
I have been buying art from Nysha for years, so I knew she had to be the illustrator of my book. Her whimsical attention to detail and use of color captured the vibe of me and my book perfectly. A quote from her site,”Mother & Artist. Not two words but two callings on my life. I’ve always felt an inherent need to make everything around me beautiful, and I believe motherhood is the ultimate labor of love.”
You will find her illustrations in the pages of The Art of the Flatlay and throughout this site.
